Welcome to the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (SURWASH) Program. Our initiative is set to revolutionize Nigeria's approach to ensuring universal access to sustainable and safe Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services. Through a dynamic results-based strategy, we're driving impactful change with a dual-component investment totaling US$700 million over six years.
At SURWASH, we're pioneering a new era of sector programming, blending incentives with comprehensive infrastructure development, policy enhancements, and institutional strengthening. With a US$640 million Programme-for-Results (PforR) and a US$60 million Investment Project Financing (IPF) component, we're committed to addressing critical deficiencies and catalyzing sustainable WASH solutions.
Our program focuses on two key result areas. Firstly, Result Area I targets policy and institutional reforms, empowering participating states to overcome barriers and deliver resilient WASH services effectively. Secondly, Result Area 2 incentivizes WASH infrastructure development, prioritizing quality standards and post-construction maintenance across urban and rural areas. We're not just building infrastructure; we're optimizing existing systems, promoting hygienic practices, and spearheading the Clean Nigeria Campaign to eradicate open defecation.
With our effective partnership and technical assistance, we're propelling Nigeria closer to the goals outlined in the National Action Plan for the Revitalization of the WASH Sector (NAP). Together with seven participating states – Ekiti, Gombe, Imo, Kaduna, and Plateau – SURWASH is forging a path towards a healthier, more sustainable future for all Nigerians. Join us in transforming lives through access to clean water, improved sanitation, and enhanced hygiene.
